PIETRA VIVA

In the Adda Valley, in Lombardy – an Italian region renowned for its lakes and the beauty of the surrounding countryside – a specific variety of the so-called ‘Ceppo’ stone is quarried exclusively. This stone was used in various parts of the region from Roman times through to the mid-19th century. The original stone is characterised by the presence of so-called ‘ovules’, often in colours that contrast with the background tone, which help to make it a varied and decorative material. Gardenia&Ariana has reworked the design of this stone into a versatile colour palette suited to meeting the needs of contemporary architecture. The reference to this stone’s historical heritage is conveyed above all by the exclusive 3DTech technology, which recreates the authentic feel of well-worn floors, with the indentations and porosity typical of a stone surface exposed to prolonged foot traffic.
